Key UK airlines increase their flight capacities to Turkey holiday destinations due to high demand. 30/05/2010

A BRITISH airport is allocating extra seats on flights this summer to Bodrum due to high demand.

A spokesman for Robin Hood Doncaster Airport said that 15,000 extra spaces will be available on flights this summer as key airlines have increased their capacity.

Thomson Airlines, which transports both Thomson and First Choice holiday customers, will be adding its extra seats on key routes to Bodrum and Dalaman, as well as Tunisia, Lanzarote, Malaga and Mahon.

Mike Morton, director of Robin Hood Doncaster Airport, said that Thomson is planning on increasing capacity nine per cent year-on-year.

"The growth is a result of strong summer 2010 forward sales and will see Thomson Airways operating two 737-800s and one 737-300 for summer 2011," he explained.

Another of the UK's regional hubs, East Midlands Airport, recently received a boost as low-cost airline Jet2 launched its inaugural flight from its runway on May 19th.

New services to Bodrum, Alicante, Palma, Faro, and Rhodes were also announced, which takes the number of seats available from the airport with Jet2 up to 300,000.

Doncaster Sheffield is Britain's newest purpose-built airport and handles approximately one million passengers a year.
